We Cannot Turn Back In The Fight For Voting Rights

Austin, TX - Earlier today, Republican members of the U.S. Senate once again blocked a floor debate on the For the People Act, the legislation that would ensure voters are protected and that would put a stop to the harmful anti-voter, anti-democracy bills moving in the Texas legislature right now.

Valerie Street, President of Our Vote Texas issues the following statement:

“If we are to make real the promise of democracy where no vote is denied based on race, background or zip code and if we are to have systems of government that are accountable to the people and truly invested in rooting out corruption then the For The People Act must be the priority both of this Congress and this White House administration. Last month Our Vote Texas joined a letter with 150 other organizations urging President Biden to work with Congress to pass federal voting rights legislation by any means necessary. Texans cannot indefinitely fend off attacks on our vote, nor should we ever have to. We need federal action and the time must be now.”
