Austin, Texas - This morning the Texas House Select Committee on Constitutional Rights & Remedies passed HB 3 after hours of public testimony that went into the morning hours, well past when the hearing started at 8am on Saturday.

It will now continue on in the legislative process and SB 1, an equally harmful bill for Texas voters, is to be voted on by committee later today.

Together these bills target initiatives put in place to improve the voting process for Texans and instead only further complicate and restrict it.

Our Vote Texas issues this statement:

“We are so thankful to the hundreds of Texans who were able to show up and be heard on HB 3 and SB 1, two damning bills for Texas voters.

“We know that these bills will make voting in Texas considerably more difficult for many vulnerable Texans. We know that a legislative body intent on punishing voters whenever we show up strong at the polls is not what grows an engaged electorate or what fosters any level of faith in our electoral process.

“We will continue to fight HB 3 and SB 1 and the harmful provisions in these bills that only seek to weaken our vote and our place in the democratic process.”
