Democracy Can't Wait: The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act Passes In House

Austin, TX - Today the U.S. House of Representatives has passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, HR 4.

This is an important moment to celebrate how far voting rights advocates have come in their urgent calls for those in power to step forward and bring voting rights protections that help make real the promise of our nation.

Our Vote Texas issues the following statement:

“Our Vote Texas is grateful to see that the U.S. House of Representatives has passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, H.R. 4.

“HR 4 will bring back important protections of the Voting Rights Act and allow for the review and prevention of racially-discriminatory voting restrictions from going into place, thus restoring necessary protections for our vote.

“The moment must be now for HR 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, to be passed in the Senate by any means necessary and signed into law. Democracy simply cannot wait.”
