Our Vote Texas Joins Others In Calling On DOJ To Monitor 2022 Midterm Elections in Harris County

Last week the Texas Secretary of State sent a letter notifying the Harris County Election Administrator of plans to send "a contingent of inspectors to the county" for observation of the November midterm election along with a task force from the Texas Attorney General's Office.

This week, over 40 voting rights groups in the state of Texas, including Our Vote Texas, have joined in a letter to the US Department of Justice urging the DOJ to deploy federal observers to monitor the 2022 election.

Last week Our Vote Texas President Valerie Street issued the following statement:

"The Secretary of State would have us all believe that these efforts are merely meant to bolster the integrity of our elections but we cannot forget that this decision is rooted in an ongoing investigation of the 2020 election in Harris County initiated in large part at the urging of Donald Trump and organized efforts to both undermine voters and delegitimize an election that the former Texas Secretary of State deemed secure. Texas voters should be able to vote free from intimidation or suspicion and we are hard-pressed to see these tactics as anything but a calculated effort aimed at inflicting precisely that.

"Texans need to know that they can show up and vote starting Monday and should they have questions or experience any problems trying to vote, they can call nonpartisan help at 866-OUR-VOTE."
