Texas Voting In 2022

As Texas voters gear up for another important election year, changes in election laws made this past legislative session year (2021) are worth talking about with friends, family and within our communities to make sure that none of us ever misses a vote!

What can Texas voters expect voting in 2022?

Most talked about are some of the changes made to voting by mail.

  • If eligible to vote by mail, you will need to provide a Voter ID number (This is your Texas driver’s license, Personal ID, EIC Number or the last four digits of SSN) on your vote by mail application and the vote by mail ballot carrier envelope.

  • Use the same Voter ID number on your voter registration application, vote by mail application, AND the vote by mail carrier envelope.

  • If you are expecting to give birth within three weeks before or after election day, you qualify for voting by mail!

  • You will soon be able to track your vote by mail application as well as your vote by mail ballot throughout the full election process! You’ll need to provide contact information on your application so the county can make contact if you need to fix an error with either your application or ballot.

  • Don’t forget that you’ll need to request a vote by mail ballot application from your county elections office.

What do I need to know if I’m a person who assists voters?

  • If you are providing assistance to voters with a vote by mail application, or with their ballot (either in-person or VBM), you must list your relationship to the voter as well as address.

  • If you are assisting someone with a ballot either in-person or by mail, you must sign an oath that, among other things, states that no compensation was received for your assistance.

  • If you are driving multiple voters (7 or more) who qualify for curbside voting, you will sign a form shared with the Secretary of State and the Attorney General’s office.

If you are serving as a poll watcher, here are some updates.

  • People serving as poll watchers will be required to take a training and you will also sign an oath.

  • You will be less restricted on your movement and observation.

Updating your voter registration?

  • You can now update your voter registration online if you’ve moved or changed your name!
Please note that you’ll need your Texas driver’s license or ID Card, SSN, and Voter Registration Card VUID (Voter Unique Identifier) number to complete this process online. Don’t know your VUID? You can look it up HERE!
